Patent
A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by a state to an inventor or his assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for a disclosure of an invention. A patent is a right granted to a person or inventor who has invented something new, useful and unique article or an improvement of an existing article or a new process of making an article. A patent lasts for a limited period which is often referred to as the term of the patent. During the term of the patent the owner of the patent, i.e. the patentee can safeguard his invention and prevent any other person from using the same. After the expiry of the duration of the patent it becomes open to the general public and anybody can make use of the invention.
